DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF MINI PADDY DE-HUSKING MACHINE
Milling is most important aspect of post harvest operation of paddy. The traditional
method of paddy de-husking is laborious, time consuming, low output and has more
breakage. Overall efficiency of the traditional method is very poor. So to improve efficiency
and to reduce the breakage, mini paddy de-husking machine will be designed and fabricated.
This machine is used mainly for domestic purpose and it is portable. The de husking can be
done by rubber rollers with the help of shearing action. The machine has the following units
feeding, de husking and separating unit. The paddy passes through the rollers is abraded by
two knurled shaft and is de husked by the rotation of the de husking drum. The clearance
between the rollers is adjustable depend upon the type of the rice to reduces breakage. The
capacity of the machine is 20kg/hr from paddy to rice and breakage is less than 10%.
Commercially available materials are used for the fabrication. According to the standard
specifications, components are selected and assembled. The fabrication process involves
drilling, welding, and assembling of the components. After fabrications of the components,
assembly will be done.
